Work in progress: Landscapes of Living Sculptures

Joanna Pawlik lives and works in Krakow, Poland.

She studied painting at the Academy of Fine Arts in Krakow from 1994 to 1999. In 2018, she completed a PhD in visual arts at the Pedagogical University KEN in Krakow.

Joanna is an artist who creates performances and works in painting, drawing, photography, and video. Her art addresses social exclusion and personal emotions.

Her work often challenges ideas about disability by using her own body and experiences. She explores themes around what society considers "normal," frequently using powerful and thought-provoking approaches.

Joanna’s art begins with her personal experience of disability. She also includes artworks by other artists with disabilities in her exhibitions.

She often collaborates with other performers, turning their everyday life experiences into meaningful exhibitions and performances. The process of creating her art is just as important to her as the finished work itself.

Building relationships, breaking barriers, sharing personal stories, and increasing participation for socially excluded individuals are central goals in Joanna Pawlik’s work.

Joanna aims to create change and encourage openness, helping people feel more comfortable about leaving their homes and interacting with others. After years of hiding her disability, she publicly shared her artworks publicly.
