Attempting Alchemy

A new dance performance by choreographer Ludvig Daae about the dream of creating magic out of the mundane, turning dust into gold.

Medieval alchemy, the dream of making gold, may be the most utopian of all sciences. Alchemy pushes the boundaries of science and finds a home in the world of imagination. For Norwegian choreographer Ludvig Daae, this dream of transforming everyday experiences into something different and elevated is a central part of creating art.

In his new dance performance 'Attempting Alchemy', Ludvig Daae searches for utopia. He wants to transform ordinary movements, themes and objects into beauty, magic and gold.

In 'Attempting Alchemy', four dancing bodies move through the space in formations, like a changing kaleidoscope. Chasing fleeting moments where it feels like the stars are aligned. Invites you to keep faith in the inherent power of people to reach new heights together.

Sign Language Interpretation

Welcome to a post-show artist talk directly after the performance on March 20. The talk will be held in English and interpreted into Swedish Sign Language.

The performance itself contains no spoken dialogue so will not be sign language interpreted. However, interpreters will be on hand before the performance on March 20  if you need them and will interpret the post show talk as well.

The discussion will focus on the performance from the dancers’ perspectives and will be moderated by Gwyn Emberton.

Do you want to guarantee a ticket with Sign Language interpretation, please choose the ticket type 'Sign-Language' when purchasing your ticket.

Can we assist you with your ticket purchase, do you have any questions, or is there anything you wish us to know before your visit? Please contact us by email to dialog@skanesdansteater.se or phone 0703-44 58 11.

Relaxed performance

Thursday the 3rd and Friday the 4th we offer Attempting Alchemy as a "Relaxed performance", a concept welcoming anyone who prefers or needs a more flexible and relaxed performance experience.

It specifically welcomes disabled persons, but also welcomes anyone who is new or unused to being at the theater or uncomfortable in a regular performance setting. You might have small babies or need to be able to move around or exit during the performance or exit frequently.

At a 'Relaxed Performance' there is an generous and relaxed attitude towards audience noise and movement in the auditorium. You are welcome to move around, dance, be vocal or just watch the performance.

The performance's audio levels are softer to create a comfortable atmosphere.

I believe the closest we come to utopia are the brief, little moments when we interact with the world. A short second when everything works, flies, syncs and falls into place.
